After a cold winter, it’s great to finally be able to open windows and doors and let in fresh air. It’s also time to think about some maintenance tasks that are needed around your Warner Robins home. One thing to consider is the condition of your HVAC system. Spring HVAC problems are generally preventable when you take good care of your system.
Dirty Coils
One of the biggest problems with HVAC malfunctions is a dirty coil. Your air conditioner has an indoor evaporator coil and a condenser coil in the outdoor unit. The outdoor unit can easily become dirty because it is exposed to the elements. Branches, dirt, grass clippings can make their way into the unit and affect the coils. Many components are delicate so it is best to leave major cleaning to your HVAC technician. The interior evaporator coil is more complex and definitely needs a technician for a proper cleaning.
Tripped Circuit
If your air conditioner doesn’t work when you turn it on for the first time, go to your circuit breaker. Often, you just need to flip the switch to turn it on, and you’re back in business. If it continually trips, it’s a sign that there is a bigger problem brewing and you need to contact your electrician.
Malfunctioning Thermostat
Today’s modern smart thermostats typically don’t have transitional problems from season to season. However, if your thermostat is really outdated, it could affect the efficiency of your air conditioning system.
Take a look to see if it’s in heating or cooling mode. If it still doesn’t work even in cooling mode, you may need to replace it or have an expert take a look at it.
Ductwork
Ductwork problems are the hardest to identify simply because much if not all of it is out of view. Ducts can separate or leak over time, causing cool air to escape. They can also get clogged with dirt and debris, so it’s important to get them cleaned when necessary.
